An optional motorcycle helmet law was introduced to Oregon House last month. If passed, helmets would be optional for riders 21 and over who have Personal Injury Protection (PIP) insurance coverage.
This is interesting because most Oregon motorcycle insurance policies do not provide PIP coverage. Whatever your view on helmet laws is, insurers need to offer PIP on motorcycle policies in Oregon as most only offer a $5,000 med-pay provision.
The bill is currently before the Transportation and Economic Development Committee.
